The plane carrying Brenda Martin landed at the Region of Waterloo International Airport in Breslau, Ontario around 6 p.m. yesterday. She is now in the custody of officials from the Correctional Service of Canada, as she was immediately taken to the Grand Valley Institution for Women in Kitchener.
What I could not understand is this quote from defense lawyer, Eddie Greenspan, as the decision to give parole to prisoners is the function of Corrections Canada and not the federal government.
"If the government intends to somehow allow this case to get caught up in bureaucratic red tape, then I will become involved,"
According to Mélisa Leclerc, Director of Communications Office of the Minister of Public Safety
"Accelerated parole review permits offenders to apply for release after serving one-sixth of their sentence. Non-violent offenders who have not previously served a federal sentence (two years or more) are eligible"
So since she has already served 2 years in a Mexican prison, I don't see anything that would cause a lengthly delay in parole being granted to Ms Martin.

Someone should remind Greenspan that the legislative and judicial systems are separate entities.
So what have we all learned from this ordeal....move, work and break the law in a foreign country, go to trial, be found guilty and the Canadian government with all it's nanny bureocrats will fawn all over you till the foreign countries government releases you. Then you get flown home on a govenment jet ,no less, get paroled and live happily ever after. How warm and fuzzy, how Liberal! Not that anybody cares but I would have let the bitch rot.

How many more Canadians in custody in various countries around the world will turn on the taps now and start screaming discriminaton when they don't get the attention that Princess Brenda got. Oh the head aches. And to think I supported her initially. oh well..Wouldn't even surprise me if Brenda sued for the government taking too long to get this done.

Yeah, she's back home and now Canadians will be subjected to an endless round of talk show appearances and plugs for some ghost-written fantasy novel soon to appear on bookshelves. The only people happy over this are those in the Mexican justice system who are rid of this whining, ill-mannered criminal.
I suppose the Liberals and NDP will next jump on the Abdelrazik case. This guy is on the no-fly list of France, Britain and a host of other countries. He is on the Interpol watch list for traveling around the world using false idenities while he meets with known Islamic terrorists. He is the perfect "victim" for the hate-the-west nutters and fits in perfectly with Stephane Dion's proposal that all the Taliban and Al-Queda members captured in Afghanistan should be repatriated to Canada.
I don't understand the big deal with this criminal - she should do her time in the country she committed the crime - not be flown first class back to a club fed jail in Canada. Suppose they will be having tea in fine china for her in Kitchener a la Spa Day. The most gailing thing about this criminal is that she will be released sooner than later while many other Canadians in other countries will sit and rot in their jails. Get ready E.
